Since the beginning of 2022, Abadía Retuerta has its own Protected Designation of Origin. A seal of quality recognized by the European Union that endorses Abadía Retuerta wine as a product with a guarantee of origin, quality and tradition. It accredits the uniqueness of Abadía Retuerta’s soils and the maximum expression of its terroir, understood as the climatic and geographical characteristics that give unique qualities to its vineyards and grapes, and the personality of its wines. The quality of its wines shows its own identity and is governed by a single criterion: to work with its own grapes, which come directly from its own vineyards and are produced in its own winery.
From a common purpose, from an inherent restlessness and a constant dialectic between time, dialogue and space, this union was born, a relationship of two: Abadía Retuerta and Eduardo Chillida.

The Winemakers’ Collection is the result of Ángel Anocibar and his team’s interest in experimenting, gaining in-depth knowledge of the estate’s possibilities and not compromising the future of Abadía Retuerta wines. Thus, these unique wines with a very limited production, between 300 and 500 units, all numbered, are the result of three experimental lines: the adaptation to the terroir of different grape varieties, wines from vineyards in different soils, and new styles of winemaking, more current, unusual for the area.
Abadía Retuerta has its own Protected Designation of Origin, a distinction granted to it by the European Commission.

The products from our estate—wine salt, flower honey harvested from our beehives, and pine nuts—have been handcrafted using the finest natural ingredients from our vineyards, drawing inspiration from the traditions followed for centuries by the monks of Abadía Retuerta, which we have carried on.
